Greater Happiness and Joy

Brain Training for Greater Happiness

Brain Training Key to Happiness Do some brain training today by looking at and counting the many blessings you have in your life right now.  Use your brain and your mind to recognize and enhance the level of happiness you experience in your life.  By doing so you'll improve your Gross National Happiness.

What is Gross National Happiness?

I was watching the Today Show this morning, and Matt Lauer in his annual globe-trotting special feature "Where in the World is Matt Lauer?" was in the country of Bhutan.  In Matt's report from this beautiful country he noted something called Gross National Happiness.  It seems that the King of Bhutan proposed this concept of GNH which puts the well being of individuals on top of the national agenda!

How cool is that?

The idea of Gross National Happiness is a radically different paradigm from Gross National Product.  GNH is about individual health, well being and happiness and what this means beyond just having money.  This is a big jump for lots of Americans as we tend to view happiness mostly in terms of money and things -- how much we have or don't have.

But with GNH happiness outranks wealth!

This whole idea has got me thinking.  How can I can determine my personal GNH?  What about the GNH of my family, my friends and my community and how can we all take action to increase the Gross National Happiness of all Americans?

In America we are wealthy in many, many ways -- food, clean water, jobs, roads, schools, but I thinkHappiness it's possible that our GNH is very low.  I wonder too if a low GNH might be a root cause of school violence, bullying, gangs, and so many other social issues that affect our and our children's well being.

The good news is that we can each take one bold step and put our personal, family and community gross happiness at the top of our priorities.  By doing so we will, in turn, begin to improve our nation's Gross National Happiness factor!  All it takes is some determination and our brain power.

Here's to your improved happiness and well being...
